ITC will ban iPhones with BOE displays from being sold in the US

Apple likely won't be able to sell iPhones with BOE displays in the US due to a preliminary ruling by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) that the Chinese display maker infringed on Samsung Display's trade secrets on OLED panels. The ITC ruling includes two orders – a limited exclusion order and a cease and desist order. The first prevents Apple from importing infringing iPhones into the US. The latter prohibits Apple from using existing inventory and further production or sales activities. This hasn't come into effect yet – the import ban is expected to kick in with the final ruling in November. ETNews, which has been following the suit, reports that preliminary rulings are rarely overturned. After November, there is a two-month period during which President Trump will be able to veto the final ruling. Apple sources components from multiple manufacturers, e.g. iPhone displays are made by Samsung, LG and BOE. BOE typically makes the non-ProMotion displays on vanilla phones – in fact, it supplied the majority of iPhone 16e displays. However, @Jukanlosreve recently reported that Apple has approved BOE display panels for iPhone 17 Pro phones that will be exclusively sold in China. Of course, ITC's ban has no influence on sales in China, but it may have affected how Apple distributes production quotas between its display suppliers. Also, the future iPhone Fold is safe, since it will use Samsung Display panels. Besides the ITC suit, Samsung Display filed a suit with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas seeking compensation for lost operating profit plus punitive damages over BOE's infringement. Google Gemini comes to Samsung's older Galaxy Watches

As promised earlier this year, Google Gemini AI has made its way to the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 series, and it is now expanding to some of the older Galaxy Watch models. The new Watch8 series models marked the initial roll-out of Gemini AI on WearOS, and Google promised to expand to more smartwatches running Wear OS 4 or newer. The only catch for Samsung watches is that you'll need a Galaxy Watch that's running the very latest One UI 8 Watch interface on top of Wear OS. As reported by SamMobile, the Gemini AI app is available to download on older Galaxy Watches, but it does not seem to replace the older Google Assistant on devices running versions prior to One UI 8, at least for now. Samsung already kicked off its One UI 8 Watch beta for Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro units so we should see the Galaxy Watch6 series and Galaxy Watch7 also updated in due time. Sony announces Xperia 1 VII replacement program

Earlier this month, Sony halted sales of its Xperia 1 VII due to random reboots, shutdowns, and inability to power on. The brand later launched an investigation into the issue and it seems to have reached a conclusion. It appears that a number of Xperia 1 VII units are affected by a faulty circuit board, resulting in the aforementioned issues. As a result, Sony will offer a free replacement program for affected Xperia 1 VII users. The brand also confirmed that it altered its manufacturing process to ensure future units won't suffer from the same issue. Our investigation has concluded that the manufacturing process may cause a failure of the circuit board in a small number of Xperia 1 VII smartphones, which could potentially result in power issues. The manufacturing process was changed immediately to ensure this does not happen again. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers. - Sony UK official statement All Xperia 1 VII users are encouraged to verify their phone's IMEI number on a dedicated validation portal. If their device is affected, Sony will provide further instructions on how to apply for a replacement unit. The replacement program is scheduled to begin on July 21. Sony also reminds affected users to back up their data before sending in their devices for replacement. Thanks for the tip, Josip! Source

Realme Note 70 appears on Google Play Console with the same model number as the Note 70T

Someone has their wires crossed – a Lithuanian retailer listed the Realme Note 70T on its site, which has a model number RMX5313. Now the Google Play Console lists a device with that same RMX5313 model number, except it's calling it 'Realme Note 70' (no 'T') and it shows different specs. According to the GPC, the Note 70 is powered by the Unisoc UMS9230 – this appears to be the Tiger T606. It has 4GB of RAM and is running Android 15. Realme Note 70 (RMX5313) on the Google Play Console The device apparently has a 720p+ display. None of this matches the leaked specs of the Realme Note 70T – that is supposed to use the Unisoc T7250 (still with 4GB of RAM) and to have a 6.74' 1080p+ OLED display. The non-T model is specifically listed as 'RMX5313IN' on the GPC, which indicates that it is a phone bound for India. But the chipset and display differences between Note 70 and Note 70T are too big to just be a regional variant. Realme Note 70T One Geekbench result for the RMX5313 seems to confirm the UMS9230 chipset, so we'll see how that pans out. Maybe the retailer got the model number wrong for the Realme Note 70T. Via
